Project Overview:

A highly technical groundworks and infrastructure project delivered for a major residential scheme. Kingsheath Construction secured the £6 million contract to deliver the complete groundworks package for the new Poppy Fields development situated in Hawkinge. Crucially, we were appointed to act as the Principal Contractor for this site, taking full responsibility for the overall health, safety, and management of the construction phase. The project required a broad scope of civil engineering services, ranging from complex site mobilisation and deep earthworks to intricate utility protection and sustainable drainage installations. We established the essential foundations and infrastructure to support this growing community.

Delivering Complex Groundworks as Principal Contractor

Stepping into the role of Principal Contractor demands exceptional logistical control, precise resource allocation, and a steadfast commitment to site safety. Our team took full responsibility for planning, managing, and monitoring the enabling works, substructures, and infrastructure phases for this significant residential development. The extensive scope of work demonstrates our capacity to manage complex engineering challenges, heavy earthworks, and strict compliance standards from the ground up, all while coordinating multiple moving parts across a busy active site.

Key services delivered on this groundworks project included:

  • Comprehensive Site Mobilisation: Executing a complete site setup programme to establish a safe, compliant, and highly efficient working environment. This included setting up welfare facilities, securing the perimeter, and establishing structured access routes before heavy machinery broke ground.
  • Earthworks and Soil Management: Execution of a bulk reduced level dig alongside associated transportation. We meticulously managed all heap and soil logistics to ensure the site remained safe, efficient, and environmentally compliant, maximising material reuse wherever possible.
  • High Voltage (HV) Cable Protection: Managing complex existing utilities by accurately establishing the presence and route of an active High Voltage (HV) underground cable. We implemented strict no-dig protocols and established secure exclusion zone measures to guarantee the safety of our workforce and prevent any disruption to the local power supply.
  • Piling Rig Support and Platforms: Precise installation of heavy-duty working platforms to ensure safe, stable, and highly efficient operations for specialist machinery. We provided continuous attendance and logistical support for the piling rig throughout the complex foundational phase.
  • Post-Piling Substructures: Following the successful completion of the piling phase, our team expertly constructed the subsequent substructures, providing the robust and secure structural base required for the new properties.
  • Roads, Sewers, and Infrastructure: Construction of all necessary road networks and footpaths to exacting local authority standards. Alongside the highways, we installed a comprehensive network of main foul and storm sewers to connect the development reliably.
  • Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS) and Attenuation: Delivery of a complete and environmentally considerate water management strategy. This included installing integrated SuDS features and constructing a high-capacity underground attenuation tank to control surface water runoff safely and prevent local flood risks.
